FAST FACTS

Use Delaware as the model. Within five years, bring mindfulness into Delaware’s schools, health care, mental health, veterans, business, non-profits, and government. Impact 100,000 lives.

Repeat this with Community Partners in ten US cities and six countries around the world.

Total: In five years, impact 1.5 million people.

OVERVIEW

A GIFT “Community Partner” is a city/state that has a full-time professional on the ground, committed to bringing mindfulness into local schools, hospitals and health care organizations, mental health, businesses, nonprofits, social justice/the criminal justice system, and government programs. The goal in each is to impact 100,000 lives in five years.

In some cases, a community will represent a whole state or a whole nation. For the most part, a community will be defined by a  major city and it’s surrounding suburbs.

GIFT is using Delaware, Sam Beard’s home state, as the proving ground.

Over time, GIFT will replicate this system in a total of ten cities/states in the United States and six countries around the world.

DELAWARE AS THE MODEL – KEY ELEMENTS

  • Reach out and mobilize mainstream Delawareans who already practice mindfulness.
  • Over a fiver-year period, bring mindfulness into Delaware’s schools, hospitals, non-profits, businesses, the judicial system, and government.
  • Fundraise and hire one full-time professional.
  • In five years, impact 100,000 lives.
  • Enlist the top elected officials s public endorsers and leaders.
  • As a simple organizing tool, enlist GIFT Ambassadors (traditional local opinion makers who share the mission and want to actively help.)
  • Add GIFT Alliance members(traditional local opinion makers who will be less active, but will lend their names and open doors.)

GIFT began June 2016.

The starting goal was to enthuse six to ten GIFT Ambassadors and 15 to 20 GIFT Alliance members. By year end, GIFT had 49 Ambassadors and 33 Alliance members. We project 100 mainstream leaders by the end of 2017 – way past any initial projection. GIFT hired a part-time professional.

GIFT has already inspired programmatic initiatives with veterans, the mentally ill, non-profits, hospitals, businesses, and government. GIFT had positive initial
meetings with the two U.S. Senators and the new Governor. During 2017, the goal is to raise $100,000 to $125,000 for each of four years to hire one full-time
professional and retain the existing part-time professional.

ENLIST COMMUNITY PARTNERS

By the end of 2019, GIFT plans to have launched all sixteen communities- ten in the United States and six more in countries around the world. The vision is to have each Community Partner replicate Delaware’s “Key Elements.” After five years of operating with the full-time professional on the ground, impact 100,000 lives.

PROGRESS IN 2016

GIFT enlisted interested parties in five U.S. states: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, New York and Pennsylvania.

GIFT enlisted interested parties in five countries: Australia, Germany, New Zealand, Portugal and the United Kingdom

GOING FORWARD

2017-2019 will be important years to test GIFT’s capacity to activate our Community Partners. The determining goal will be to find the resources to hire the full-time professional in each. GIFT will pursue two paths. First, identify committed individuals with fundraising ability and the necessary contacts.

Second, GIFT will seek to identify an existing local mindfulness organization that has resources and sees the benefit of allying with GIFT.
